Career Experience

I have designed and taught first-year composition courses and literature surveys, working with hundreds of students individually to achieve their writing goals in general and as they pertained to specific academic writing assignments (2000-2008). I have worked as a writing center tutor, and I have tutored on a freelance basis for over 25 years. I am also a published author on the subject of early modern English literature.

I Love Tutoring Because

it gives me a chance to pay forward the generous help tutors have given me over the years. It's very rewarding to help someone break down the components of a challenging assignment and understand clearly how to fulfill it. I'm all about empowerment--helping people develop academic writing skills to create cogent and compelling arguments.

I appreciate the tutor's feedback on my writing. At the same time, there were frequent communication difficulties. I'm not sure if there was a technical issue with the audio this time, because no tutor has had trouble understanding me when I speak before. It was a bit frustrating and discouraging.
