Description
A company has an economic responsibility: it must earn a fair return for its stockholders. However, corporate social responsibility means that organizations have also ethical and societal responsibilities that go beyond its economic responsibilities. CSR requires organizations to enlarge their understandings of their responsibilities to include other stakeholders like employees, customers, suppliers, local communities, state governments, international organizations, etc. Ethics could be seen as a crucial component of individual and group behaviors at the heart of organizations responsibilities.
This course considers the ethical responsibilities of managers and corporations. We consider individual and organizational business actions and decisions in the light of moral principles and values. We intend to raise difficult ethical challenges and to provide frameworks that inform about common patterns of success and failure in managing ethics and corporate responsibilities. We address the multi-level (individual, team, organizational level) and multicultural context of ethical behavior and responsibility. Finally we question the discourse about ethical values in business and market activity, and analyze the potential changes to business caused by the consideration of ethic's central role.
